Product Overview

Suede Dye Fix 99 by Leather Doctor® is a water-based dye fixative that locks in suede dyes, dramatically improving wet rub fastness and minimizing color bleeding and crocking.

Water-Based Anti-Crocking Fixative for Suede Finishes

Ideal for both natural and re-dyed suede, this spray-on fixative enhances durability while preserving the luxurious nap and signature finger-writing effect of suede.

This non-stiffening formulation penetrates evenly without oversaturation, maintaining the suede's softness, breathability, and tactile depth.

When used in conjunction with proper brushing techniques, it effectively fixes unstable dyes while keeping the surface receptive to suede conditioners.

 Benefits

        • Reduces or eliminates crocking, dye transfer, and bleeding, especially when exposed to moisture or friction
        • Maintains the natural nap texture, color vibrancy, and finger-writing appeal
        • Designed for re-dyed, aniline-toned, or vintage suede articles prone to dye migration
        • Compatible with Leather Doctor’s Suede Conditioner W and Suede Scent Conditioner W Plus for softening and non-stick finishing

  Mixing Instructions

        • Dilution ratio: Mix 1 part Suede Dye Fix 99 concentrate with 6 parts distilled water (1:6)
        • 2oz Fill (Add 48g distilled water 1: 6 before use)
        • 8oz Fill (Add 194g distilled water 1: 6 before use)
        • 32oz Fill (Add 778g distilled water 1: 6 before use)
        • Mix thoroughly before pouring into a spray gun or airbrush reservoir

  Spray Equipment Setup

        1. Air pressure: Set between 80–100 psi
        2. Nozzle setting: Adjust to a fine cone-shaped mist spray pattern
        3. Feed control: Decrease fluid feed to promote fine atomization

 Application Procedure

        1. Spray evenly in a circular overlapping motion, holding the nozzle approximately 6–8 inches from the surface
        2. Use a soft suede brush or brass-wire suede brush immediately after spraying each section to guide fixation and lift the nap
        3. Avoid oversaturating; the goal is a light, controlled mist coat
        4. Work in small sections, brushing thoroughly while still damp to distribute the fixative evenly
        5. Allow to air dry naturally
        6. Once dry, brush again to restore the finger-writing effect and velvety nap

 Post-Fix Conditioning (Optional)

After dye fixation and brushing, apply:

Both conditioners help reduce friction and improve the rub resistance of the fixed dye while keeping the surface non-sticky and pliable.

  Pro Tips

        • Use only distilled water for dilution to avoid mineral contamination or residue
        • Apply in a well-ventilated area or under a spray booth with proper PPE
        • Test in an inconspicuous area before full application to confirm compatibility and appearance
        • Brushing technique is crucial—more brushing = better nap lift and distribution
