Product Overview

Leather Doctor Kit-P7.di, pigmented leather ink/dye stain removal kit is an innovative concept of removing ink and blue jeans dye stains featuring a “reverse transfer” technique utilizing a paper towel over the dwelling Prep-7.7 and CleanDye-7.9. Both Prep-7.7 and CleanDye-7.9 works by penetrating, lubricating and suspending the stains on dwell time and the paper towel reverse absorbs the stains instantaneously from the leather. Prep-7.7 works on oil/grease based dyestuff like ballpoint ink, marker, etc by dissolving the oil/grease components and the remaining dye residue can be further repeatedly removed with CleanDye-7.9. To safely suspense the remaining dyestuffs for up to 72 hours. Sticky residue is removed with Clean-3.8, and rinses off with Rinse-3.0. Alkaline tacky surfaces are further pH balanced with Acidifier-2.0 with a pH value of 2.0 to a healthy squeaky feel. Hydrator-3.3 relaxes stiff leathers prior to fatliquoring (fat and oil replenishing). Fatliquor-5.0 rejuvenates the leather structure with strength and suppleness when dry. Damaged topcoat if any is then feather out with 2000 grit sandpaper prior to refinishing with MicroTop-54M. Protector-B+/B imparts a non-stick rub-resistant protection with a buttery feel that shields against sticky soiling and reduces friction noises that translate to less color transfer and wear. Note that the mentioned product suffix number denotes its pH value in this holistic leather-safe ink and dye stain removal system.

Tips-1: Always test the ink and dye stain removal product in a hidden or inconspicuous location to inspect any removal of the pigmented finishes (if possible stimulate an actual removal with the stain in question, to experience how the products work).

Tips-2: Avoid any physical rubbing of the stain, use cotton swab, or blotting with a folded absorbent towel.

Tips-3: To reverse transfer ink and dye stains, the washable towel has to be soaked through with products in order to wick up the suspended stain free from the leather surface.

Ink Stain Removal on different Pigmented Leather Finishes Types:

Monotone:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Monotone pigmented leathers are opaque in appearance just like paint surfaces with water droplet pooling on the surface when tested. Ink stains will slowly penetrate into the finishes and it's easier to remove when still fresh within a few days. Aged and compounded failure attempt may pose more difficulties as the molecular ink structure may have been altered from the original. Weak and worn finishes will also be more difficult to remove as the topcoat coat may weaken and the surface becomes semi-absorbent making stain penetrate further deeper into and through the leather crust. Removal is first done with Prep-7.7 to dissolve the oil/grease component and the remaining residual dyestuff is further worked with CleanDye-7.9 until completely removed.

Two-Tone:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Two-tone leathers like Kela Effect, molted, wiped, tipped, cloudy, etc. commonly has a darker secondary coloring. This secondary coloring is a weaker translucent formulation and easily removed from friction rubs and aggressive cleaners. Tips to reduce this secondary darker secondary color removal is to avoid Prep-7.7 and work only with CleanDye-7.9. Using a cotton swab to reduce contact time may also help reduce color removal.

Antiquing:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Antiquing leathers has the weaker secondary darker colors more easily removed than the primary lighter opaque coloring, from friction rubs and aggressive cleaners. Tips to reduce this secondary darker secondary color removal is to avoid Prep-7.7 and work only with CleanDye-7.9. Using a cotton swab to reduce contact time may also help reduce color removal.

Testing:

Ballpoint Ink                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          The known ballpoint pen is used to stain the leather at a hidden location. Prep-7.7 is applied onto the stain and Towel-T5 is placed over the stain and product. More product is applied onto the towel with close contact onto the stain without any air space. Let it dwell for 4 hours and inspect the ink run that is reverse transfer to the towel. This dwelling can be placed for up to 72 hours with periodic inspection, until stain removal satisfaction. Otherwise CleanDye-7.9 is used instead to repeat for satisfaction removal. Sticky residue is removed with Clean-3.8 and rinse with Rinse-3.0. Any tackiness is further rectified with Acidifier-2.0 to a healthy squeak feel.

Dye Transfer                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Dyestuff transfer from new blue jeans and clothings, are removed with CleanDye-7.9. Product is transferred to a cotton swab and lightly rubbed at a corner of the stain to see removal satisfaction. Otherwise a small square of the Towel-T5 is used to saturate the product and place over the corner of the stain for up to 4 hours and repeat inspection up to 72 hours for satisfactory reverse transfer of the stain. Sticky residue is removed with Clean-3.8 and rinse with Rinse-3.0. Any tackiness is further rectified with Acidifier-2.0 to a healthy squeak feel.
