Vachetta / Simulated Leathers Combo

vachettabag.jpg

Vachetta leather derives its popular brownish range of color from the tannin found in vegetable matter such as tree bark. Its exact shade depends on the mix of the tanning agent and the color of the skin. It is popularly made into luggage including trimmings of Louis Vuitton handbags. This leather is left unfinished or naked; therefore, it is susceptible to body oil, grease, sweat, water and other liquid stain. It is more pH sensitive than most leather types thus the common sweat and cleaning products alkaline overexposure darkens and denatures the leather and eventually cracks when flexed. Sunlight will cause the natural leather to darken in shade or suntanned, just like our skin; unlike aniline dyes that fades.

Pigmented (P.s) Simulated - Leather Problem Solving Guide

Simulated is a form of artificial leather, commonly derived from covering a natural or synthetic fabric base with a soft polyvinyl chloride coating. It is also commonly embossed and a secondary coating or prints such as monogram added. The prints or secondary coating is delicate and wears off more than the primary color. These leathers are usually non-absorbent and soiling and stains general stays on the surface, however dyes stains has the tendency to migrate into the surface and will need to be reverse-transfer delicately without affecting the prints or secondary coloring. Protector-B or the leather-scented Protector-B+ helps to reduce sticky soiling and reduce friction rubs that will prolong the wear of these prints.
