Product Overview

Leather Deglazer Stripper 2.3 by Leather Doctor is a pH 2.3 balanced leather deglazer stripper to remove unwanted finishes, preparing for new refinishing.

How to use Stripper 2.3?

1* Apply and brush with Strip Brush 9 and/or with Leather Eraser 4, then extract with a terry towel before it dries.

2* Rinse 3.0 is used as a rinse. Alternatively, Acidifier 2.0, which is 10 times stronger, can be used both as a rinse and as a pH-balanced alkaline solution for overexposed leather. This ensures that the leather is balanced, preventing it from feeling sticky, tacky, or slimy and instead giving it a healthy, squeaky feel.

3* Hydrating with Hydrator 3.3 is recommended to relax stiff and dry leather in preparation for immediate fatliquoring with Fatliquor 5.0. This ensures that the leather dries with softness and strength before any refinishing work.

1* What is the pH value of Leather?

The pH value of leather after production ranges from 3 to 5.

2* What Causes the pH Value of Leather to Shift?

Since leather is an amphoteric or pH-sensitive material, it shifts away from its pH-neutral state when exposed to an alkaline solution.

3* What are the Causes of the Common Alkaline Overexposure?

Our body's sweat often becomes more alkaline as it ages and is frequently exacerbated by the use of alkaline cleaning and conditioning products.

4* How does Alkaline Overexposure Affect the Nature of Leather?

When leather is exposed to an alkaline solution, its pH value becomes negatively charged (-ve). However, the remaining leather constituents remain unchanged. Thus, behaving like a magnet, "as poles repel," the leather protein fiber breaks the hydrogen bond with the leather constituents, and the leather denatures.

5* What are the Signs of a Denatured Leather?

The signs of denatured leather are evident during cleaning, as the aniline dyestuff often bleeds. The leather becomes tacky or sticky as the tanning agents leach out. Bright streaks are often evidence on pastel color pigmented leather, and a darkening effect results on Vachetta or veg-tan unfinished leathers. The stiffness of the leather after drying is a common phenomenon, and when stressed, it often cracks on already-dried leather.

6* What is a Leather Deglazer Stripper 2.3?

A leather deglazer or stripper is formulated to safely remove or strip existing finishes in preparation for refinishing. It has a pH value of 2.3 to neutralize and balance the leather to its pH-neutral state, controlling and preventing any adverse side effects to the leather.

7* What is Leather pH-Balanced Deglazer Stripper 2.3 used On?

The Leather pH-Balanced Deglazer Stripper 2.3 is used to remove and strip the unwanted finish of the leather before recoloring, redyeing, or refinishing. Additionally, it will remove aged oil and grease-based soiling, conditioners, grease, waxes, inks, and paints.

8* Care when Using Deglazer Stripper 2.3

Good ventilation or a fan or wearing a mask is recommended during application. Work away from direct heat for fire safety. Rubber gloves are recommended to prevent direct skin contact.
