Product Overview

Ugg Boots Suede Water & Dye Stain Remover - Kit-Us.wd by Leather Doctor is a suede care kit formulated for the care of the famous Ugg boots that keeps our feet warm in cold weathers. However, water damages is one of the most common problems when used outdoors manifested from a range of unwanted browning stains and accumulated soiling rings. Other problems are stiffness with distortions and naps crushed from the soft finger writing effect characteristic of suede. This kit is an innovative leather-safe (pH 3-5) system formulated to keep suede boots at their highest level of appearance, maintaining its pH chemistry integrity, enhancing their suppleness and restoring its soft finger writing effect.

In water stain restorative cleaning procedure of unwanted browning and rings, tools used are suede Brush-3, suede Eraser-5 and absorbent terry towel. Cleaning products CleanPro-1.5 > Acidifier-2.0 system is deployed first. Any general stain remaining including blue jeans dye transfer are spot clean with Prep-4.4 > CleanSuede-3.8 > RinseSuede-3.0 system (see row #4) or known stains are removed according to the Suede (S.u) Ugg Boots Suede Problem Solving Guide. When all water stains are removed completely the shoe is hydrated and fatliquored to ease out any stiff creases and original fat and oil replenished for suppleness when dry. Dry brushing to groom and erasing to bring forth fresh naps are done with Brush-3 and Eraser-5 respectively. And the last step is to apply Protector-W to impart a non-stick, rub-resistant waxy-feel characteristic of suede. Note that the mentioned product suffix number denotes its pH value in this leather-safe holistic care system for suede.

This kit comes with “Fill” shipping version, a reduced weight option to save on shipping, freezing and ease for handling, thus concentrate ratio in the 250ml bottles has to be cut and filled with distilled water prior to use.

Instruction:

A) Suede Side Water Stain Removal, Rejuvenating and Protection:

Sequence-A1: Dry Soil Removal: Instruction: 1) Put on a boot-tree or stuff the boots with fullness for easier handling and better keeping in shape. 2) Vacuum off foreign soiling with help of suede Brush-3. 3) Exfoliate to renew fresh nap with help of suede Eraser-5 follows with vacuum cleaner. Proceed to Sequence-2.

Sequence-A2: Water Stain Removal: Instruction: 1) Apply CleanPro-1.5 and agitate with Brush-3/Eraser-5 and towel extract until it shows clean. 2) Spray Acidifier-2.0 and towel extract to a squeaky-clean. 3) Let natural drying and wick-up soiling is erased with Eraser-5 prior to hydrating. Proceed to Sequence-3.

Sequence-A3: Hydrating: Hydrating is to relax the suede skin of stiff creases and wrinkles from diminishing original fatliquor in a wet and dry water damaged situation. High pH water solution above the suede pH neutral of 3 to 5 leaches out the Fatliquor (fat and oil) and when it becomes dry again the fibrils becomes stick together. Water has an average pH value of 7 and salt water averages 8 that is the reason for denaturing the suede. In suede denaturing, its constituents like the tanning agents leaches out any may result in the suede becoming tacky, dyes may migrates and fatliquor leaches out and remaining are visible as white rings, lines or residues. Hydrating the boots without any dry edges further helps to redistribute these essential constituents and stabilize the suede chemistry integrity. Hydrating is to precondition the suede for fatliquoring; it helps to relax and separate the stick together fibrils and opens up the inter-fibrillary spaces for effective colloidal water movement within the suede structure. It also facilitates to wick-up foreign contamination to be towel extracted when damp and erased when crispy dry. It plumps the suede to ease away the unnatural creases and wrinkles. It stabilizes the pH integrity of the suede and charges the protein fiber ionic positive below its iso-electric point (pI) to hydrogen bond with the ionic negative fatliquor more effectively. It is recommended therefore to hydrate the suede to an optimum level, with moistures oozing out when gently pressed between thumb and fingers. Prolong dwell time will maximize the effects with the help by covering with clear plastic to prevent evaporation. Instruction: 1) Spray Hydrator-3.3 to saturate the entire thickness of the suede; extract with dry absorbent white terry towel to inspect for an even appearance without blotchiness and it is ready for immediate fatliquor replenishing. 2) Severe dryness or stiffness will require a longer dwell time of up to 72hours with evaporation control, covering with a clear plastic sheet. When the suede is plump and limp extract until towel shows dry or about 25% reading from a moisture meter and immediately proceed to Sequence-4.

Sequence-A4: Fatliquoring: Fatliquor-5.0 an emulsion of fat and oil originally introduces to the suede to impart its desirous suppleness diminishes through leaching in a water damaged situation and manifest as stiffness when the suede becomes dry again. Replenishing is done with “fatliquor-in-a-bottle” as a spray-on instead of the original immersion method. Fatliquor, the lifeblood of leathers derived from fats, oils and water. Looks like fresh milk, when applies penetrates the leather and hydrogen bond with the suede protein fiber. The fat plumps the suede with fullness, the oil lubricates the individual fibrils and the encasing water breaks free leaving the inter-fibrillary spaces void for natural transpiration. Effective fatliquoring will leave a non-greasy or non-oily surface when dry. Besides softening the skin, fatliquor enhances its rip tensile strength greatly. It relaxes coarse breaks, creases and wrinkles and prevents cracking. It helps to keep the suede at its optimum physical performance and prevent premature ageing. Suede Approximate Quantity or Percentage of Fatliquor:The quantities of fatliquor (fat and oil) contents retained in the suede after an universal modern tannery fatliquoring process may varies up to 14%. This percentage drops as the fat and oil content diminishes or leaches through ageing, water, heat or chemical overexposure. Suede rejuvenating or fatliquor replenishing is base on weight of the hide/skin in relation to the percentage of remaining fatliquor. A simple calculation of percentage of fatliquor topping up requirement would be as follows: If the weight of the suede in question is 100gm and fatliquor (fat and oil) content meter reading is less than 1%.By applying 80gm of Fatliquor-5.0 to it will deliver an end result incremental of 13.3% fatliquor when dry as the 66.6% water contents evaporates. In the suede rejuvenating Hydrator-3.3 > Fatliquor-5.0 > Hydrator-3.3 system, Hydrator-3.3 plays an important role by relaxing, opening up the inter-fibrillary spaces, facilitating and redistributing colloidal water movement, protonating and doing all the pre-conditioning work prior to fatliquoring including cleaning up any excess surface remnants to have a sticky-free surface. In practice with severe dryness the ratio for Hydrator-3.3 are 2 to 1 of Fatliquor-5.0. It works out to be approximately 160gm of Hydrator-3.3 plus 80gm of Fatliquor-5.0 to replenish a 100gm dry suede from less than 1% back to the original tannery up to 14% fatliquor content. Instruction: 1) Spray Fatliquor-5.0 for an even appearance. 2) Repeat application in between drying as the water contents evaporates until it’s saturated. 3) The fully saturated suede is left for slow natural drying for extra softness. 4) Use Eraser-5 to remove wicks up residue and inspect for visual satisfaction.

Sequence-A5: Non-Stick, Rub-Resistant Protection: Instruction: 1) Shake well, mist spray Protector-W evenly and brush. 2) When dry thereafter groom again for best appearance and it is ready for use.

B) Wool Side Cleaning, Sanitizing and Conditioning (optional):

Sequence-B1: Dry Soil Removal: Instruction: 1) Vacuum off foreign soiling with help of Brush-3 or a wool slicker comb.

Sequence-B2: Wet Soil Removal: Instruction: 1) Spray CleanWool-5.5, brush and towel extract until it shows clean. 2) Spray RinseWool-4.0 and towel extract to a squeaky-clean. 3) Let natural drying and groom to bloom.

Sequence-B3: Non-Stick, Rub-Resistant Protection: Instruction: 1) Shake well, mist spray Protector-S evenly and brush-in at the same time. 2) When dry thereafter groom with suede Brush-3 or a slicker comb for best appearance and it is ready for use.

 Kit Content and Product Description:

Leather Doctor® CleanPro-1.5 (250ml) CleanPro-1.5 (pH 1.5) is a water-based restorative cleaner with an extra protonating or pH balancing function. The amphoteric leather protein fiber ionic positive (+ve) attraction in most cases need to be charged up to attract the other ionic negative (-ve) leather constituents more effectively like the tanning agent from denaturing or reverting to rawhide, stabilizing migrating dyestuff from bleeding, and fatliquor (fat and oil) from breaking hydrogen bonds or leaching that result in stiffness that leads to cracks. In a system to rectify leather denaturing from turning sticky or slimy Acidifier-2.0 is used as rinse. Hydrator-3.3 is used to redistribute the tanning agents back to the expose areas and Fatliquor-5.0 to supple up the leather when dry. The purpose of this low pH value of 1.5 (CleanPro-1.5) is to revert the leather from denaturing or reverting to rawhide, however other associated leather constituents need to be replenished accordingly.

Leather Doctor® Acidifier-2.0 (250ml) Acidifier-2.0 is a water-based pH 2.0 leather acidifier designs for controlling dye bleeding in conjunction with Degreaser-2.2 in extreme prolong oil, grease and sweat decontamination system. As a standalone, it is for pH balancing alkaline overexposure that manifest as marks, streaks, brightness and tackiness. This universal acidifier is for all leather types including pigmented, aniline, vachetta, nubuck, suede, hair-on-hide and woolskin leather types.

Leather Doctor® Prep-4.4 (60ml) Prep-4.4 is the leather-safe milder version of Prep-7.7 with a pH value of 4.4 for pH sensitive leathers. This universal prep cleaner is for all leather types including the common vachetta, nubuck, suede, wet-white and all aniline leather types This prep cleaner works by allowing sufficient dwell-time to penetrate, lubricate and suspense prior to towel extraction. Proven technique include “reverse transferring” suspended stain during dwell time through a stretchable absorbent paper rather than being reabsorbed by the leather instead. It is design to remove stain such as: a) Blue Jean Dye, b) Leather Belt, c) Plastic Ink Print, d) Newsprint, e) Ballpoint Ink, f) Stamp Pad Ink, g) Sticky Label Residue, h) Crayon, i) Chewing Gum, j) Silicone Shine, k) Permanent Marker, l) Accumulated Soiling. It is highly recommended that the remaining sticky residue be thereafter remove in conjunction with Clean-3.8 and Rinse-3.0 as a holistic leather-safe system.

Leather Doctor® CleanSuede-3.8 (250ml) CleanSuede-3.8 is formulated with a pH value of 3.8 is an all-purpose mild leather-safe anionic universal cleaner for all leather types without the potential side effects like rings and browning on sensitive leather or suede. It is particularly effective in emulsifying oily soils and in suspending particulates. It works by penetrating, lubricating and suspending soiling safely and effectively through gentle chemical reaction working in perfect harmony with all leather constituents that include the tanning agent, preservative, dyestuff and especially the fatliquor for a leather-safe cleaning experience. In a holistic cleaning system it is highly recommended to follow through with Rinse-3.0 to a healthy squeak thus prevents or ceases potential remaining residue from overworking.

Leather Doctor® RinseSuede-3.0 (250ml) RinseSuede-3.0 is a pH 3.0 water-based leather-safe universal rinse for all leather types that include pigmented, aniline, vachetta, nubuck and suede. It is to removes suspended soiling by towel extraction while neutralizing harmful alkaline residues and charging the protein fiber ionic positive to increase the attraction between the ionic negative leather constituent like the tanning agent, dyestuff and fatliquor.

Leather Doctor® Hydrator-3.3 (250ml) Hydrator-3.3 is a water-based pH 3.3 leather-safe hydrator. It is a fatliquor preconditioner with multi functional abilities. Surface application is primary to check for even surface tension free of blotchiness prior to fatliquor replenishing. Structural application will require saturating to an optimum level with moisture oozing out when gently pressed between thumb and fingers. This universal Hydrator-3.3 is for all leather types including pigmented, aniline, vachetta, nubuck, suede, hair-on-hide and woolskin. The multi functional abilities include: a) To check for surface tension for an even appearance free from blotchiness prior to fatliquor replenishing. b) To plumps, relaxes and separates crushed, shrunk and stick together fibrils for manipulating away-unwanted creases and wrinkles. c) To clean the leather of structural foreign contamination, the plump and limp leather is squeeze with towel laid between the leather and a smooth spatula or equivalent. d) To rectify alkaline overexposure areas by facilitating colloidal water movement to redistribute the leather constituents from surrounding areas. e) To activate the dormant dyestuff within the leather structure for color refreshing. f) To facilitates colloidal water movement within the inter-fibrillary spaces for wicking foreign soiling particulates to resurface. g) To stabilize, pH balance and charge the protein fiber below its iso-electric point (pI) ionic positive to hydrogen bond with the ionic negative fatliquor more effectively.

Leather Doctor® Fatliquor-5.0 (250ml) This is an anionic negative (-ve) charged micro emulsion of fat, oil and water for rejuvenating all leather types. It is typically used in conjunction after Hydrator-3.3 relaxing and opening up the fibrous leather structure. It softens the leather when dry with stretchability, compressibility and flexibility, while enhancing its rip tensile strength greatly. It is for replenishing the original fat and oil that diminishes thru sun bleaching, ageing, heat and alkaline overexposure or cleaning. On application, the water-encased molecule breaks free when ionic attraction takes place between the fat and oil with the leather protein fiber. The excess free water content wicks out leaving a breathing space behind for leather natural transpiration. The fat plumps the leather with fullness from easily collapsing into creases and wrinkles during stress or flex, while the oil lubricates the fibers so that they slide over one another smoothly like millions of inter-connecting hinges. Thus helps to keep leather at its optimum physical performance and prevent premature ageing. This universal Fatliquor-5.0 is for all leather types including pigmented, aniline, vachetta, nubuck, suede, hair-on-hide and woolskin.

Leather Doctor® Protector-W (250ml) Protector-W is the scentless version formulated for waxed aniline and suede leather types. It is a non-film forming, non-stick, rub-resistant protector that enhances a soft natural waxy-feel. It imparts a non-stick, breathable barrier, essentially to shield the detrimental effects of sticky soiling. Its natural waxy-feel protection increases the leather resistance to wet and dry rubs, thus reduce stretch, scuff and abrasion.
